THE 1920'S

The 1920's has been called many things throughout history. Several of the names are The Lawless Age, The Jazz Age, The Roaring Twenties, and The Black Renaissance. Although the 1920's was all of these things, it is best known for being the biggest, the loudest, and the brightest decade ever known in history. This decade started with the 18th amendment which was Prohibition that started on January 17th of 1920. Prohibition was the beginning of a thirteen year dry age which means no alcohol was legally comsumed in the United States. This helped bring about all of the gangster movie types that we see today on the big screen in Hollywood. The decade was ended on October 24th of 1929 by Black Thursday. October 24th is called Black Thursday because it was the Crash of the New York Stock Exchange which announced the end of the fun loving 1920's and began the Great Depression.
